After decades of aging, this Bastardinho de Azeitao (Trousseau grape variety), has reached its peak. This blend incorporates a span of 40 years, the youngest harvest being 40 and the oldest about 80 years.
The release marks the last 2300 liters of this very rare wine.
Note of interest: The vineyards from which Bastardo was harvested existed between the Costa da Caparica and Lavradio but have since been uprooted due to urban growth. In 1983, the Jose Maria da Fonseca family were given the last ton of grapes coming from a vineyard about 90 years old, whose grapes had a probable alcohol potential of 18 °.
In order to prevent its extinction, in 2005, the family planted half a hectare on one of our properties.
