TÁVORA VAROSA

The Távora-Varosa region is situated between Douro and Dão, and is home to some of the most uniquely fresh wines in Portugal, as well as being the oldest DOC for sparkling with in the country.

Winters here are cold and wet, summers hot and dry, but this is high country, with vines at an average altitude of 550 meters above sea level, and it is far harder to ripen grapes.

Its unique climate and soil conditions, with mostly granitic soils, poor in limestone, sometimes schist and acid, with marked erosion, and planted in altitude make this region a special one for the production of wines - whites, reds, and sparklings with tremendous acidity, floral aromatics and citrus notes.
